Inflorescence axillary or terminal racemes or panicles; pedicels jointed, usually 2-bracteolate. Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic or zygomorphic, 5-merous, hypogynous. Calyx 5, free or connate, lobes imbricate, rarely valvate, one or more (never all) furnished with a large gland. Petals 5, mostly clawed, fimbriate or dentate. Disc obscure. Stamens 10, obdiplostemanous, sometimes less, equal or unequal; filaments free or connate at the base; anthers bithecous, dehiscence longitudinal. Carpels 3, syncarpous; ovary 3-locular, 1 ovule per loculus, placentation axile; styles 1-3, straight, curled or hooked. Fruit of one or more winged samaras or capsules or drupes.
