Crinum latifolium

Herbs, perennial, fairly stout, evergreen. Leaves ligulate, green, ca. 70 cm x 3.5-6 cm, gradually narrowed towards apex, apex acute or acuminate, margin wavy. Flowering stem (scape) upto 45 cm long. Umbel 5-7-flowered; bracts narrow linear, ca. 5 cm x 3 mm, membranous; spathe bracts 2, lanceolate, ca. 6 cm x 2.5 cm, thin membranous, acuminate; pedicels very short or absent. Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic, epigynous, trimerous, pendulous, pink, large and showy, ca. 18.5 cm long. Perianth of 6 tepals, subsalverform; tube ca. 9 cm long, slightly curved; lobes light pink (white tinged with red), lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, ca. 9.5 cm x 2.2 cm, apex shortly acuminate, reflexed at apex. Stamens 6, inserted on perianth tube throat, filaments (shorter than perianth) ca. 7 cm long; anthers ca. 1.5 cm x 3 mm, linear, reniform, versatile. Carpels 3, syncarpous, ovary inferior, ca. 10 mm x 8 mm, 3-locular, one ovule per locule; style 17 cm long, slender, upper part red; stigma small, capitate or shallowly 3-lobed. Capsule subglobose, ca. 4 cm in diameter, dehiscing irregularly. Seeds usually 1 per capsule, up to 2.5 cm x 2 cm, oval to subglobose, fleshy, testa corky.
