The authors of this work, Dr. Sudershan Kumar Verma and Dr. Shailja Verma, the husband-wife duo, are the retired Heads and Associate Professors in Botany of Sanmati Govt. College of Science Education and Research, Jagraon, District Ludhiana, Punjab, India. Both are the products of prestigious universities of India. Dr. S.K. Verma has pursued his degrees of M.Sc. (Botany) Hons. School and Ph. D. in the field of Bryology from Department of Botany, Punjab University, Chandigarh. He has a number of research publications to his credit on “Cytological studies in Mosses” in foreign journals of repute. Dr. Shailja Verma has accomplished her degrees in M.Sc. Botany and Ph.D. in the field of Plant Anatomy from Punjabi University, Patiala. She too has a number of publications to her credit.

Both are widely travelled in various parts of North Western Himalayas. During their academic tenure they have undertaken multiple plant collection and study tours to various places and mentored the students in plant identification. They planned many seminars and talks to benefit the students of M.Sc. Botany. They shaped Plant Museum and Botanical Garden of the college for the study of plants.

In the post-retirement period they planted and nurtured over 500 plants and trees in their surroundings and different parts of the city. Their tireless efforts towards “ GO GREEN INDIA” has made some sectors of the city GREENER.
